In GLOBE Claritas we usually set 2D marine offsets to be negative numbers (as the cable is behind the vessel/source); all of the simple 2D geometry assigning modules (MGEOM, QSORT) use this convention. This is not a requirement - all modules will function for marine data using positive offsets, but care needs to be taken when transfer data to and from other processing packages that may use a different convention, and with some modules (for example OFFREG) where the sign of the offset needs to be considered.
